Mexican Cocktails: The Mexico Lindo

Mexico lindo y querido (“lovely Mexico”). Ever heard that expression? It comes from this traditional Mexican mariachi song, made famous by Mexican movie idol Jorge Negrete.

He sings of how dying away from Mexico would be unbearably. It’s a love song to the Motherland, if you will, a phrase that rings true to most Mexicans. But what does it all have to do with this recipe?

Turns out there’s a Mexico cocktail called “Mexico Lindo”. It uses tequila, lime juice, and Curacao, but other than that there’s nothing particularly Mexican about it. Go figure…

Ingredient-wise, which Curacao should you use? I prefer to use orange or transparent Curacao for this recipe. Still, feel free to go for blue Curacao if you’re so inclined (the taste is basically the same).

Ready? Here’s what you’ll need.

Mexico Lindo

Cook time: 5 minutes.

Makes: 1 serving.

Ingredients:

- 1 part blanco tequila

- 1 part lime juice

- 2 parts Curacao

- chilled cocktail glass

- maraschino cherry

- crushed ice

Preparation:

Add crushed ice to the shaker. Then add the tequila, lime juice, and Curacao and, well, shake!

Serve directly from the shaker into the chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Summing things up...

There you have it, a cocktail recipe that pays tribute to Mexico.

A tasty cocktail with a name close to Mexico's heart. Just pour, shake, and serve… doesn’t get any simpler than that!
